EDLD 5302

Concepts of Educational Technology 

As I continue my journey in the Applied Digital Learning program, I've seen firsthand how concepts like the Growth Mindset, failing forward strategies, and the COVA learning approach are shaping my growth and impacting the work I’m doing. My introduction to this world started with Concepts of Educational Technology (EDLD 5302) and Disruptive Innovation in Technology (EDLD 5305). These courses gave me the space to explore how technology could help MomISD grow into something that truly makes a difference for virtual homeschool students.

One of the most powerful tools I’ve embraced is the Growth Mindset. Initially, I applied this to my personal life and quickly saw how much it could benefit virtual learners. Many students in online environments face unique challenges, from social anxiety to the pressure of school expectations. The Growth Mindset has helped me understand that setbacks aren’t failures—they’re simply opportunities for growth. This shift in perspective has empowered me to support these learners in ways that encourage perseverance, even when things get tough.

I’ve also leaned heavily into failing forward strategies. Instead of fearing failure, I’ve learned to embrace it as part of the learning process. This mindset is especially important in the world of virtual learning, where technology and teaching methods are constantly evolving. By experimenting with different tools and strategies, I’ve been able to refine my approach to teaching and learning, creating solutions that help both students and educators adapt, learn from mistakes, and keep moving forward.

A game-changer for me has been the COVA learning approach—Choice, Ownership, Voice, and Authentic Learning. This approach has encouraged me to take ownership of my own voice and give students the freedom to do the same. By allowing students to choose how they learn, express their thoughts, and engage with real-world content, they become more invested in their education. I’ve applied these principles in EDLD 5205, where I developed a blended learning tool that empowers virtual learners and educators to stay engaged and keep moving forward, no matter the obstacles.

These approaches aren’t just transforming the way I learn—they’re shaping the tools and resources I’m creating for others. As I continue to grow, I’m excited to see how the Growth Mindset, failing forward, and COVA will continue to guide my work and help me make a lasting impact on virtual learning environments.

Growth Mindset

Join me as I explore my personal growth mindset and how it has shaped the way I serve virtual learners. One of the highlights of this interactive blog is the growth mindset quiz, which was my starting point. It motivated me to work toward my "yet!" Although I’m not quite ready to launch my virtual program, this lesson inspired me to put myself out there and apply what I’ve learned so far.

Learning Manifesto

Join me as I embark on creating a learning manifesto to serve as the foundation for MV's approach to education. My professor encouraged me to focus on developing my own learning manifesto, and I’m grateful for the chance to explore MV more deeply while laying the groundwork for its learning philosophy. This lesson walks you through the steps I took to create the MV manifesto, with the hope that it will inspire you to craft your own. Many educators have asked me, "Why create a manifesto? Doesn’t that just add more work?" For me, the answer lies in my why. Education is constantly evolving, but staying grounded in my why empowers me to show up for my students every day. So, what will your why be?

Learning Networks 

I am truly proud of the work I’ve accomplished in both EDLD 5302 and EDLD 5305. Please take a moment to read my blog, where I reflect on my experience in these courses—it has been transformative for me. As someone who struggles with a mood disorder, this program has been a challenge, but the freedom from focusing on tests has been incredibly motivating. Without the pressure of testing, I’ve been able to focus on the quality of my work, which has sparked my creativity and encouraged me to explore new technologies and programs. Additionally, working alongside my classmates has been invaluable. Their diverse perspectives and collaborative spirit have enriched my learning experience and pushed me to think more deeply and creatively.
